NWCU’s 60th anniversary blood drive resounding success!
Local weatherman gives his 100th donation and was joined by many credit union employees and members of the public.
When the officials at Northwest Community Credit Union decided to celebrate the organization’s 60th anniversary with a blood drive, they set a goal of collecting 60 donations. At the end of the event, the results were far better than anybody had imagined. Ninety-nine people registered to donate blood, and although quite a lot were deferred from giving for various reasons, a grand total of 76 units were collected. Many of the donors were giving for the first time, or giving again after a long absence. We hope that they will all now make donating blood a regular part of their lives.
As a highlight of the blood drive, KMTR TV’s well know meteorologist Joseph Calbreath gave his 100th pint to LMBB. Reaching this number had been his long-term goal and he commented that it took him more than 20 years to get there.

Everybody who registered to donate received a special NWCU tee shirt and a raffle entry for the grand prize of accommodations at the Driftwood Shores resort in Florence, along with dinner for two. Winner of the grand prize was Randy Gordon of Eugene. Six consolation prizes of first aid kits were won by Maricela Rinen, Tina Hilliard, Cathy Lew, Stephen Wymer, Terry Reich, and Nancy Starner.
The blood banks extends its thanks to NWCU CEO Helen Byrnes, VP Finance/CFO Pat Force (who coordinates all the credit union blood drives), and all the staff of the Gateway facility for organizing such a successful event.
