Lane Memorial Blood Bank High School Scholarship:
Students Saving Lives
Eligibility requirements:
Current Lane County high school students planning to attend a university,
college, community college or vocational school are welcome to apply. (This
includes seniors attending college fall ’08)
Qualified use of scholarship:
Scholarship must be used to attend a university, college, community college or
vocational school and will be distributed directly to the school on the student’s
behalf.
Application requirements:
Propose a summer blood drive (see attached worksheet). Tell us where you will
hold it, who you will ask to donate blood, how you will promote the event and
when you would like to host your blood drive. To be approved, your proposed
blood drive must have at least 20 people willing to donate blood and include a
suitable blood drive location (see attached “Bloodmobile Guidelines” and “Basic
Requirements”).
Each student may plan only one blood drive but multiple students can plan a
drive together. Each blood drive coordinator will be given one raffle entry for
every 20 people registering to donate at their blood drive. In the case of a blood
drive being planned by multiple students, they may choose to enter the raffle
individually or enter together and split the scholarship if they win.
Qualifying blood drives will be held between June 15 and August 22, must have
at least 20 people registered to donate and must be new blood drives. A student
cannot take over a regularly scheduled blood drive; they must schedule and
organize their own blood drive.
If you have questions about the eligibility of your proposed blood drive, please
call Kristi McElhinney.
If your proposal is approved, Lane Memorial Blood Bank will contact you on June
6 to schedule a date for your blood drive and begin preparing for it. No more
than 30 blood drive proposals will be approved.
General information:
$1000 scholarship awarded to a student for coordinating a successful summer
blood drive between June 15 and August 22; winner will be chosen through a
raffle on August 23. To be considered successful, a blood drive must have a
minimum of 20 people presenting to donate.
Application deadline:
Blood drive proposal (worksheet attached) due by Wednesday, June 4—your
proposal will be approved or denied by June 6.
Award date:
The scholarship winner will be drawn at a special event held at LMBB Saturday,
August 23. All students holding successful drives will be invited and receive a
small gift.
